Devastated widow eats dead husband’s ashes after discovering his secret double life of affairs, escort

I wonder what kind of wine you would pair with it.

A Canadian widow has written a touching memoir in which she details the consumption of her late husband’s ashes shortly after learning he had had a series of affairs and sought the company of several high-priced companions.

Mom and essayist Jessica Waite’s husband, Sean, died in 2015 while on a business trip to Texas.

Jessica Waite’s new book details how discovering her late husband’s infidelity led to an unorthodox way of coping. Jessica Waite

In A Widow’s Guide to Dead Bastards, Waite recounts how she opened her porn-addicted husband’s iPad to look up the number of the Houston hospital that holds his body and discovered his damning browsing history.

Waite writes that as she began typing Houston into the browser, it automatically filled in with the words “Houston Escorts.”

It also found searches for specific escorts, as well as their prices and locations.

But that was only the tip of the iceberg.

Waite spent months uncovering her husband’s secret life and learned that he regularly saw escorts and cheated on her with several women.

Waite also learned that Sean had lied to him about having to work late on some nights, and was instead busy downloading hundreds of lewd porn videos onto his personal computer, all of which were organized and categorized into folders of different desktop.

She even learned that he had rented an apartment in Colorado, where he would have sex with the escorts and women he had taken.

Waite writes in the recently published book that she could not come to terms with the reality of her husband’s secret double life and slowly began to lose him.

While thinking about her husband’s infidelities, Waite described opening the bag of his ashes and taking them to her garden, where she mixed some of them in her dog’s feces.

“I desecrated the remains of my partner in life,” Waite wrote.

“But then, in desperation and guilt, he took more of his ashes – and actually ate them. The residue feels dry to the fingertips, thicker than baking powder, grainier than salt. Mix with tear water, a mineral mud on the back of the tongue. I swallow.”

Waite admits she was “detached from reality in the wake of Sean’s death” at that point.

Today, Waite has a new man in her life, but she thinks every day about the duplicity of the man she was once married to.

“I feel better and stronger than before, but I still cry almost every day, and I still feel like a part of me has died,” Waite wrote.

“Because that part of me that existed inside Sean did.”
